The Connecticut Sea Music Festival returns to historic downtown Essex, Connecticut, from June 6 to 9, 2025, offering a celebration of maritime music and traditions. Organized by the Maritime Music & Tradition Society, this family-friendly event features a diverse lineup of local, regional, and international performers.
Festival Highlights:
Symposium on the Music of the Sea: Kicking off the festival on Friday, this symposium delves into the rich history and cultural significance of sea music.
Free Daytime Performances: Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy free concerts, workshops, and demonstrations at various venues around Essex, including the Town Green, Connecticut River Museum, and local businesses.
Evening Concerts: Ticketed performances under the big tent at the Connecticut River Museum on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Advance tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children aged 3–17; children under 3 are free.
Family Activities: The festival includes a dedicated family stage, sailor skills demonstrations, and opportunities to sail on the Connecticut River aboard the historic vessel Onrust (separate ticket required).
Community Sings: Participate in open chantey sings, a Sunday morning hymn sing, and late-night sessions at local venues like The Griswold Inn and the Essex Corinthian Yacht Club.
