Blacksmithing Basics at the Mystic Seaport Museum

  • Mystic Seaport Museum 75 Greenmanville Ave Mystic, CT 06355 United States (map)

Join a small group for six evenings of blacksmithing fun! Our 1885 Shipsmith Shop is the historic setting for your entry into the world of coal forges, hammers, anvils, and the shaping of metal into functional and decorative items. Topics include fire tending, heating, tools, hammer control and, of course, safety. You’ll learn appropriate techniques, such as tapering, flattening, and bending, as well as how to apply long-established blacksmith finishes to your work. At the end of the course, you’ll have your own piece of metalwork to use and enjoy!
